projects: hand work

Freedom Well
Hand Work, installation and video, Palfy Palac, Bratislava, Slovak Republic, 1999.

This installation took place in a 15th century cellar underneath the Palfy Palace in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. The beads woven on two sides of the room represent chaos and structure. Moving toward the back, the viewer sees the video that coins the name of the installation: Hand Work.

The video frames hands performing intimate rituals: stringing beads, applying handcream, tying nautical knots in ropes.

At the entrance to the exhibit, visitors detached a strand and took beads from the bowl to add to the Chaos side of the piece.
