5.5K compares the expression of a small file size to the stringing
together of 5,632 previously-used buttons in eight-bit strings.
The buttons serve simultaneously as aura objects and as expressions
of information bits.
This piece was first exhibited in Art Post Art, a show of mixed
media work that examines the role of art in an ironic age dominated
by the media and technology. My pieces explored how I experience
art through the mediation of numbers and the perspective of time.
Later in 2000, this piece was also exhibited in Socha
Y Objekt,
an annual international summer long exhibition of sculpture and
objects in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. I was invited as the American
representative to the exhibition.
