Emelia Domres Rapske, born 1902, Dresden, North Dakota Through the door. Her arms are open wide, she hugs me, I smell fresh dill from pickling cucumbers, I smell beets and soil and freshly baked bread. The ancient linoleum under my feet crackles as I run to the stairs, beating my sister to the hole in the floor in Aunt Darlene's bedroom, the one that heats the second floor, through it I can see all the action below. She melts the butter and fries the mashed potatoes. She pours warm cream over fresh peas...she will play Rack-O with me after the dishes are done. by Caroline Anderson, granddaughter This site is a collaborative collection of grandparent memories in stories and images from around the world, and is produced by you and by Caroline Anderson in connection with an exhibition at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota.
